First note that in order to install custom ROM, Your device battery should have above 70% Battery, Zip File of TWRP Recovery on SD Card, Rooting apps like KingRoot or Magisk, Zip File of Custom ROM that you wanted to install and ZIP files of Google Apps (Gapps) that is compatible with your version of custom ROM (OS).
Step#1: Backup your Data
The first step is to take a complete backup of data because in the process you will end up losing your entire data so it’s essential that you should have a complete backup of your data.
You can take a backup of data either by transferring data to another device or by using TWRP recovery to take a complete backup.
Step#2: Root your Device
Now, the second step is to root your phone. In this step, you can either use Magisk or Kingroot Android apps to root your device. Apps like Kingroot will automatically root your device with one click and that’s an easy way of rooting.
You don’t have to understand the technical stuff like Opening Developer Options, Unlocking OEM and Unlocking the Bootloader if you are using such apps. But if you don’t want to use such apps and root the device thoroughly, you will have to unlock OEM and the Bootloader. Now you have rooted your device.
Step#3: Install TWRP Recovery
Installing TWRP recovery is the most important aspect of installing custom roms. The most efficient way to install custom ROMs is through this method. You can install it from the Play Store or from Google.
An effective way for installing TWRP recovery is to download the ZIP file of TWRP recovery onto the SD card and then you can use it in the Recovery Mode of your device.
Step#4: Create a Backup of your Phone
This step involves talking a Backup of the whole phone including System OS, Boot files, Modem and Data Files. Now, boot into Recovery mode and open TWRP Recovery. There you can find the third option of Backup. Click on it and create a Backup of your phone.
Step#5: Wipe your device
In simple words, wiping your Android device means to completely erase or remove all the data files on the device excluding the OS files. After wiping, your device’s settings is set to the default built in settings that the manufacturer has put into the device when it’s being manufactured.
Step#6: Flash Custom ROM
Finally, it’s time for flashing Custom ROM into the device. You have to save the custom ROM on the SD card. Now, insert the SD card that has ROM in it. Go to TWRP Recovery and click on Install. Select the custom ROM File there and boom you’re good to go.
Step#7: Flash Google Apps
Many Custom ROMs do not come with Google apps by default since some come with Gapps. After installing TWRP Recovery and flashing the custom ROM, flash the Gapps Zip file as well. Yep, now the steps are becoming very easy because you are understanding them quickly.
Step#8: Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
Now go to TWRP Recovery, Click on Wipe, now click on Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache. Once it’s done you are good to go.
Step#9: Reboot the Device
Once you’ve completed each and every step correctly. I’m glad that now you are able to flash any Custom ROM on your Android device. It’s kinda fun having an Android phone and then completely customizing it according to your taste.
If anything had gone wrong with the Custom ROM, use the Backup that we’ve created in the Step 4 to restore everything to it’s previous condition and try some other ROM.
It’s possible 95% of the time because most custom ROMs have no installation errors. But if any error occurs, don’t worry it’s part of this process. You can use the Backup or try using a different ROM.
